Radicular pain is a concern that occurs when something goes wrong with the nerve roots in the spine and Dr. Bettencourt sees many clients from the Napa area who are suffering with this. These nerves deliver messages from your brain to the rest of your body and when they’re irritated it can lead to discomfort, numbness, tingling and other problems. Radicular pain can be extremely troublesome to your life, making it an issue to do even the easiest tasks.
There are a lot of likely causes of radicular problems, which are herniated discs, spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis. Herniated discs are a common cause of radicular pain and happen when the soft inner material of the disc protrudes out through a crack in the outer casing. This can put pressure on the neighboring nerve roots and cause problems. Spinal stenosis is a condition that takes place when the spaces within your back bone narrow, which can also lead to pressure on the nerve roots. Spondylolisthesis is a condition in which one vertebra slips out of place and onto the bone below it, which can also make pressure on the nerve roots.
Radicular pain can be caused by trauma like a car accident or can result from aging and degeneration. As we age, our discs and vertebrae have reduced flexibility and that can result in nerve issues.
Chiropractors are trained to diagnose and treat conditions that affect the vertebrae and nervous system. Dr. Bettencourt in Napa uses a numnber of techniques including adjustments, manipulation and massage to help decrease issues and improve function.
